When Ashley got the call that Nikolai was in the hospital, she couldn’t have known what was happening. He had seemed totally fine. But when she arrived to hear that he wasn’t likely to make it, her world lurched. She watched as this struggled to stay alive, and she witnessed a truly miraculous recovery as God was gracious in returning him back to her. Less than a year later on September 25, waves peacefully ebbed along the Virginia shore as Ashley glided towards her future husband. It was here, in this moment, that the impossible was happening. This man whom now waited mere yards away had almost died less than a year earlier. Her knight. Her groom. And now, with the approval of her son, she was going to marry him… Her Superman.
Throughout it all, Ashley herself was nothing less than radiant. Minutes after the wedding I was lucky enough to catch her whispered words, “This is the happiest I’ve ever been in my whole life.” She has her man now, and her son has a step-father. And as Mr. Larum, Nikolai’s father, said during the ceremony, he now had a grandson and a new daughter. The entire event was an explosive celebration. Most everyone arrived Friday evening, and the last people didn’t leave until Monday. Throughout it all, it was awesome to just take part. People dancing till five the morning before the ceremony, and then people swimming in the ocean till three in the morning the day after. It was a weekend to remember.
Good luck Nikolai and Ashley. You two obviously care so much about each other and I’m proud to have gotten to see so much of who you both are.
